Jane Light has over 30 years of experience as a manager in local government and regional and local libraries. She is nationally known for developing innovative, efficient and effective library services and programs. She served as library director for the San Jose Public Library for 15 years, where she was instrumental in establishing the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, a unique joint use library that is both the San Jose State University’s library and the City’s main library and system headquarters. Jane led the development of a Branch Facilities Master Plan that resulted in a bond measure in 2000 that funded the construction of six new libraries and the replacement of 14 branches. She partnered with the City’s Department of Public Works to deliver the projects within budget. She also led the City’s successful effort in 2004 to pass a library parcel tax to provide dedicated funding to supplement the general funded budget. Under her leadership, San Jose Public Library became a recognized leader in developing services that respond to customer demands for convenience and self-service while operating effectively and efficiently.
